Safeco is a large insurer based in Seattle that provides auto, home and business insurance. I work for Safeco University, a centralized department that delivers training to all of Safeco's employees. Most of the courses I have developed at Safeco have been Web-based and delivered in the Saba LMS, but I have created some instructor-led trainings as well.

Instructional Design Manager
University of Washington - Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (5/04 - 9/06)
The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP) is a grant-funded organization at the University of Washington. Its mission is to provide training and academic expertise to public health practitioners in six northwestern states and tribal regions. Trainings developed by the NWCPHP include: Web-based courses and modules (both instructor-led and self-paced), synchronous Web conferencing sessions, institutes, tabletop exercises and CD-ROMs.

Distance Learning Instructional Designer

Portland State is a large urban campus with a mission to provide a diverse range of distributed education programs to both traditional students and working adults. This includes courses that are fully online, mixed mode and delivered via video. Both the eMBA and the Social Work cohort programs draw students from all over Oregon.

Academic Systems (now owned by PATO Learning) creates interactive, learning modules for the college market. The company has two main product lines: Interactive Math & Interactive English. I worked on the Interactive English product line creating around 15 different Learning Objects on such topics as "Writing Introductions," "Using Figurative Language," "Understanding Audience" and "Writing a Cause & Effect Paper."

  • Designed college-level learning modules for the Interactive English product

The Gale Group, a division of Thomson Learning, is one of the leading publishers of reference material and information databases. The unit I worked in produced indexes and abstracts of periodicals, primarily for the library market. One of its best known products is called Infotrac.

  • Researched, edited and maintained a large controlled-vocabulary thesaurus
